What records should you take home?
Ask the coordinator which records the clinic can provide, in what language, and when they will be ready. If your eye doctor at home needs a particular measurement or format, raise that request before departure. Use the checklist below to discuss the records you may need.

How is care handed over to a local eye doctor?
Discuss who will perform examinations after your return and what information they will need. A local clinician must agree to provide care and decide what examinations or treatment are appropriate. Sending records does not by itself arrange an appointment.

When should follow-up examinations happen?
Ask your surgeon for your examination schedule before departure. The timing depends on the procedure, your examination findings and how your eyes recover. A general article cannot set the same schedule for SMILE, LASIK and lens-implant patients.
Confirm your travel plans with the treating team and discuss what to do if the schedule needs to change. Keep the written instructions with your records. This page does not set a fixed date for flying, driving or returning to other activities.
How do you stay in contact after returning home?

Which symptoms need urgent attention?
The FDA's LASIK patient guidance advises contacting the doctor immediately for severe pain or worsening vision or other symptoms, rather than waiting for the next scheduled appointment.
